What are thermal binding covers?

A thermal binding cover is a pre-built book cover with a strip of solid adhesive resin already inside the spine. You insert your loose pages into the cover, place it into a thermal binding machine, and the machine heats the resin until it flows around your pages and bonds them into the spine. After about 90 seconds, you have a finished bound book — hardcover, softcover, lay-flat, or clear — without glue, punching, coils, or wires. Peleman invented the original SteelBinding cover system in the 1990s and remains the global standard for thermal binding.

Which type of binding cover should you use?

Lay-Flat Hardcovers ($150–$180) — The premium choice. Faux-leather hardcover with a rigid spine that lies flat when opened. Are Peleman binding covers compatible with other thermal binding machines?

Peleman covers are engineered for Peleman Unibind machines (60 Deluxe, 60 Pro, 120, 8.1, 8.2). They use a proprietary SteelBinding spine construction with magnetic activation in the machine. Generic thermal covers from other manufacturers will not bind reliably on Peleman machines, and Peleman covers may not bind reliably on generic machines.
